GREAT SOUTH BAY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB TRAILER AT THE ANNUAL SUFFOLK COUNTY MARATHON IN OCTOBER
12/10/2013 The Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club (GSBARC) earned a spot on a plaque honoring first responders and other volunteers who assisted in the wake of the devastating Superstorm Sandy and the nor’easter that followed in the fall of 2012.

Inside view of our GSBARC trailer: We use the trailer for special events, public service events, and emergency communications. When called upon to do so, the 3 IC7100 radios do SSB CW, digital modes, and winlink. We use a Buddi hex and two endfeed dipoles when needed. We have two IC5100 radios in addition to the three IC7100 radios. Our radios are powered by 400 AMP hours of AGM batteries charged by 200 watts of solar on the roof; we can pull up and start operating as soon as we get inside the trailer. All the hf sides of the IC7100 radios go to bandpass filters, so we can just all 3 radios on the Buddihex simultaneously. So far, our longest run time has been about 18 hours on just battery power, running 3 100-watt radios doing full duty cycle modes on Field day 2024

800 Amp Hours of DC battery power in this picture you can see the DC to DC charge controller. This device has inputs for the Solar panels and the battery charger/inverter. We are truly self-sufficient when there is no Main electrical grid is available

All done, it was hot, humid, and sticky. Club member K2ONA took advantage of the emptying of the coolers’ ice.
