RACES for the Town of Babylon provides auxiliary communications as needed in times of emergency and during public events.
R.A.C.E.S.- Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services is part of Civil Defense. This group provides communication between government agencies during times of a declared emergency.
ARES Amateur Radio Emergency Service ARES is a program of ARRL The National Association for Amateur Radio®, offering to the public and to its partners trained, federally licensed operators who are skilled in applying a wide range of effective emergency/disaster communications techniques and who are committed to supporting our partners’ missions in service to the public.
GSBARC helps to support ARES, RACES, and AUXcom for the Town of Babylon. GSBARC repeaters are used to support ARES RACES for the Town of Babylon and Suffolk County during times of emergency and public events. Also, a weekly net is held on the 440.850 repeater on Sunday mornings at 08:30 Just before the New York State Races Net at 09:00 This net is to assist operators that have any issues during the state net and to discuss the state net when the Phone portion ends.
Meetings are held when called by the radio officer. Would you like to be part of our emergency communications team Email the Radio officer W2HCB.

NYS RACES Net – Weekly Net Sundays 0900 local time Frequency is 7.281.0 LSB
Following the NYS RACES Net – the RACES digital net is on Frequency 7.081.50 USB, 1500 on the waterfall in either Olivia8-500, MSFK32, Thor22, MT63-500S.

Will we be doing VARA chat FM tests to see how far we can communicate Saturday mornings at 10:00 AM
I would like all stations to have VARA FM Chat running on Sunday mornings around 8:45 to receive messages before the NYS net and after. If you are part of our ARES RACES, please make every effort to be part of this. We use the VARA chat simplex frequency of 144.950.
