Welcome:

The Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club (GSBARC) is based in the town of Babylon, NY on the south shore of Long Island. We have over 100 members involved in almost every aspect of amateur (ham) radio. Public service is a big part of the clubs activities by providing communications for everything from the Long Island Marathon, TWA Flight 800 crash and the 1999 Empire State Games. There is also a fairly large inventory of equipment and a library that includes technical reference manuals and issues of QST magazine back to the 60's.

If you've come this far you probably have your amateur license, want your amateur license or at least wonder what amateur radio is all about. If you want to get your license, we have classes for all levels and host license exams. If you need help with your equipment, we can help with that too. Whatever your level of experience, GSBARC can provide assistance with almost any radio project you may need help with.

As you probably already noticed, GSBARC is involved with many different activities. We don't ignore the younger members either. There are a number of young operators active in GSBARC.

For those who can't set up their own station the club station (W2GSB) is available every Saturday during our Open House (12 Noon to 2:00 PM - 2nd Weekend of Sept. to the 2nd Weekend in July). We operate the station for the annual Boy Scouts Jamboree on the Air in October and for other Special Events.

GSBARC also operates special event stations from other locations:

  • Air Power Museum at Republic Aiport in May

  • The Fire Island Lighthouse during International Lighthouse
    Weekend in August

  • Babylon Village Fair in September.
